Thunderstorm asthma events have occurred in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) in the past. Thunderstorm asthma events can occur when there are high levels of airborne grass pollen and thunderstorm activity at the same time.
While a thunderstorm asthma event could occur during any thunderstorm, the Public Health Unit monitor airborne grass pollen counts and weather forecasts during the spring “thunderstorm season” to assess days at higher risk of a thunderstorm asthma event occurring in the district.
You can register to receive thunderstorm asthma alerts by SMS on days during the spring “thunderstorm season” assessed as being at higher risk.
